Sports are everywhere to be enjoyed. These include professional football (Cincinnati Bengals), professional baseball (Cincinnati Reds), 16 college football teams, including Big Ten Ohio State, the Dayton Flyers and Wright State Raiders basketball teams, thoroughbred and harness racing at the area's five tracks, auto racing and Dayton Hydrobowl national championship power boat racing. The Grand American Trapshoot, the largest sporting event of its kind, is held annually 10 miles south of Troy in late summer. The U.S. National Volleyball team is headquartered in Dayton.

Golf enthusiasts look forward annually to the seniors at "Kings Island," the LPGA at Country Club of the North tournament, the PGA "Memorial" at Muirfield and the Nike at Heatherwood. The Dayton Pro Tennis Classic and the Nike Seniors LPGA is a regular stop on the annual pro tour. The Dayton Bombers play hockey at the Wright State University Nutter Center and minor league baseball's Dayton Dragons play at the new Dayton Baseball Stadium.

The world famous Indianapolis 500 auto race is two hours away and held over the Memorial Day weekend. The Kentucky Derby is held in Louisville each spring and is a two and one-half hour drive on interstate highways.

There are more than 20 lakes, and dozens of rivers and streams for boating, fishing and water sports. There are 12 state parks for camping, hiking and picnicking. Several snow ski areas are a short drive from Troy.

There area eight symphony orchestras in the area. The Dayton Ballet is the second oldest regional ballet in the U.S.Theater includes Broadway shows and a wide variety of amateur groups. The Cincinnati Symphony and Dayton Philharmonic perform in Troy each year.

There are museums of all types - art, natural history, historical, and the world-famous Air Force Museum. The Columbus and Cincinnati Zoos are very popular.

The annual Miami County Fair is held at the Miami County Fairgrounds in Troy while the Ohio State Fair, the biggest in the world, is held in Columbus.

Four major amusement parks are in the area, including Kings Island and Cedar Point. The Dayton International Air Show and Trade Exposition held at the Dayton International Airport each July is the largest air fair in the U.S. just 10 miles south of Troy.



The Troy Strawberry Festival is a major tourist attraction, held the first full weekend in June attracting over 250,000 people for this two day event.

Additional annual events held in Troy's downtown square include: The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Concert; Presentation Weekend featuring artists from throughout the U.S.; The Troy Festival of Nations; The Mayor's Concert featuring the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus.

Shoppers unite! Ohio's extensive selection of major retailers, delightful shopping districts, discount outlets, craft emporiums and special "Made In Ohio" items provide shoppers with myriad opportunities for browsing and buying.

For shoppers who love to return home with unique hand-made items, Ohio's crafters are among the nation's finest. The precision of Amish woodcarvers is second to none. Whether fine decorative carvings or furniture pieces, items founds in Amish country are assured to last for generations to come.

Throughout Ohio's Appalachia, visitors can find a wide variety of craft and handmade goods. Yarn woven on traditional spinning wheels, musical instruments created from native wood, pottery thrown and painted to vibrant colors and baskets designed to last a lifetime are just some of the beautiful items made in Ohio's Appalachian counties.

For shoppers who love to find a bargain, Ohio has outlet malls outside each of its major cities and a plethora of flea and farm markets. And, for those who love searching for antiques, antique dealers can be found throughout the state.
