Crested Butte Parks & Recreation offers year round activities for children and adults. With twenty-two acres divided between eight different parks, we offer many different sports and activities. Most sports are organized and require registering with the Recreation Office, other activities happen on a drop in basis. Some of the best park activities can be spent alone or with a friend, with a ball or a book. Like many other beautiful high mountain towns, Crested Butte is a recreational dream. So, check out the activities and enjoy our town’s beautiful parks. The 360-degree views from our parks are unparalleled.
It is 231 miles southwest of Denver and 28 miles from the Gunnison County Airport. Surrounded by the Gunnison National Forest, Rocky Mountain Peaks and rolling ranchland, Crested Butte occupies a gentle valley at 8,885 feet. The town of Mt. Crested Butte is three miles north at the base of the ski resort and has an elevation of 9,350 feet.
Flights from key cities on major airlines get you to Gunnison easily. American, and United Airlines all frequent our valley in the winter season. In the summer, United provides service to the Gunnison County Airport. Ground transportation by taxi, rental car and shuttle are available and affordable. Greyhound Buslines services Gunnison daily from several Colorado cities.
Brilliant sunshine, low humidity and moderate temperatures provide very comfortable conditions in both summer and winter. The temperatures in January can range from a high of 37 degrees to a low of 5 below zero. In July, the temperatures can fall anywhere between a high of 85 to a low of 37. Of course, mother nature can provide a wide variety of temperatures any time of the year.

Drive the designated Scenic Byways to Kebler Pass atop the mighty Rockies. The West Elk Wilderness and it's trails provide miles of exploration... the Forest Service is ready to assist with maps and information. Take the West Elk Scenic Byway from Kebler Pass through the Elk Mountain Range. The tour begins and ends in Gunnison and takes about five hours. Visit The Castles, formed by an extinct volcano, waterfalls, high alpine lakes, and 13,000 ft. peaks.
