Wonderful Caribbean Island

Since 1917, when paradise was first called American, St. Croix has presented its idyllic landscape to many a modern explorer. Today, with tourism St. Croix's largest industry, people still arrive here looking for spices. They find them, too in our local restaurants, bars, and shops. While sugarmills still grace our hills, they now stand as picturesque ruins for neo-explorers to discover. Yes, people still arrive at our shores dreaming of treasure, and they find it whether in the exotic bounty at our local stands, in a dessert prepared by a celebrated chef, or in the ready Crucian smile.

St. Croix's culture leaves you no choice but to celebrate it. It's almost impossible not to smile as you savor a slice of anything smothered in mango salsa, or sip a Calypso Daiquiri created with Cruzan Rum. Check out a Harbour Night, a Jump Up, or a night of culture at Hotel on the Cay. You'll find yourself dancing in the sand or the street.

Take a journey into the past at the Whim Museum or at some hidden, haunting ruins of an old plantation. Learn about how St. Croix came to be what it is today by exploring the St. Croix Heritage Trail. You will look around with a renewed appreciation for Island culture! You can find it in the streets, in the hills, and in the water. While you're talking with one of our captains about the sea, we suggest you excuse yourself for a moment to peer at your own reflection in the pristine water. You'll be sure to catch yourself smiling!

Harbour Nights - Making the most of a warm tropical night along the beautiful and historic Frederiksted waterfront, St. Croix's Harbour Nights are not to be missed. Local residents show off their talents with offerings of dance, music, culture, food, and arts & crafts ranging from inexpensive souvenirs to the most beautiful and unique gifts. It is a night for Frederiksted to come alive - shops stay open late and merchants share the street with a mix of locals and welcome visitors from cruise ships and hotels who can dance the starry night away with mocko jumbies (on stilts)! This cultural festival is on alternating Wednesdays year-round, so you're likely to overlap with the fun.

Jump Up - Many inbound island visitors plan their vacations to coincide with a Jump Up - family oriented, safe, fun block party style events. The streets are closed off to traffic so that the mocko jumbies can roam through the streets. Youth & calypso bands sprinkle the town, restaurants and businesses stay open late offering great specials. Visitors can enter drawings to win prizes.

La Grange Marketplace - Still in its infancy, La Grange is striving to be a cultural center and marketplace where visitors can go for entertainment, theatre, shopping, local food & drinks. Its offerings appeal to everyone in the family, and so does the location. Less than one mile from the Frederiksted Pier (where cruise ships dock), there is a free shuttle service to & from the pier every 20 minutes. Set amid scenic ruins in the peaceful countryside, don't miss the chance to watch La Grange grow into its name - a cultural center for St. Croix.

Cruzan Rum Distillery - Using only the purest natural ingredients and processes, Cruzan Rum has for over 300 years made this best-selling rum at its distillery on St. Croix. For a small fee, guests can have a guided tour of the distillery and see first-hand how rum is made. Tours conclude with complimentary rum drinks at the Pavilion Gift Shop.

Everyone here on St. Croix knows that life's a beach. The question is, what kind of beach do you want your life to be? Better yet, what kind of beach do you want your life to be today? With so many beaches to choose from, at least one a day might indeed be the way to go!

Tuesday, feeling spontaneous? Take a long drive along a shore road, and pull off with your partner where the mood strikes you, to lay a blanket or search for shells. Wednesday: Celebrate at Carambola, where body surfing beckons. Thursday, check out the waves at Judith Fancy. Ah, Friday and still so many beaches to choose from Shoys, Cane Bay, Rainbow, Coakley, Divi, Grapetree the possibilities seem endless.
