"Five Fingers" is the name of the absolute attraction on the Krippenstein, which protrudes like a hand over the valley and can be seen from everywhere. Every single finger is accessible. The first ends with a picture frame that frames the view of Hallstatt, while the second finger has a telescope through which the Dachstein and the World Heritage region can be viewed. The third finger is a stepping stone and the fourth has a hole in the floor that reveals Krippenbrunn. The most spectacular is of course the fifth finger, which consists of a glass plate and is accessible for the most daring. The world heritage view and the world heritage view along and at the end of the pioneer cross hiking trail will delight the guests of the Dachstein hiking world with sensational views.

Dachstein Rieseneishöhle

The Dachstein giant ice cave is located high above the Traun Valley and can be reached on foot in a few minutes from the Schönbergalm. The ice is formed by seepage water that enters the cave from the Dachstein plateau through joints and crevices in the rock. If the outside temperature is above freezing point, but cold air is still stored in the cave rooms, the water that penetrates freezes and forms the wonderful ice objects that make up the magic of the giant ice cave. Even if the ice melts slightly in summer due to the penetration of warmer water, the growth balance is positive - the winter-spring increase is greater than the summer-autumn loss of ice and thus continues to guarantee a great experience of nature.

Reise ins Eis

In 50-minute tours, visitors can immerse themselves in this natural wonderland and experience the magic of the ice landscape up close. Experienced guides lead you through ice-free corridors and a stalactite hall down to the "King Arthur's Cathedral". Here in this hall dominated by mighty boulders, bones of cave bears were found at the time, which show human traces of processing. Stairs through the narrow Keyeschluf facilitate the ascent to the upper one Floor of the cave, the fantastic ice shapes of which are the highlight of the cave visit.

Experience the ice landscape up close From the "Ice Palace" the path leads to the "Parsifaldom" and the "Great Iceberg" - an ice cone over nine meters high. The route continues to the mighty ice bell of the "Grail Castle", which, depending on the lighting, comes in various colors of white shimmers to dark blue. A connecting corridor leads to the 25 meter thick ground ice of the adjoining "Tristandom" and the descent into the "Great Ice Chapel" at the base of the cave ice gives a lasting impression of subterranean beauty. Passing the ice abyss, the overcoming of which was the biggest obstacle when exploring the cave, visitors reach the exit with its beautiful view of the Krippenstein and Lake Hallstatt.

Bibi Blocksberg Führungen

During the magical special tours in the Dachstein Giant Ice Cave, the youngest visitors walk in the footsteps of the famous Bibi Blocksberg film! In the Dachstein Giant Ice Cave, from 3 p.m., it is always important to watch out: Then the "Witch Rabia von Katzenstein" is guaranteed to lead Bibi Blocksberg fans to the "secret of blue owl dust". Most of the famous children's and youth films were shot in the adventure realm in the heart of the Dachstein. Equipped with a lantern and a treasure or cave map, a "tame" witch leads the kids, accompanied by their parents, through the darkness of the mystical cave passages. There is an adventure to be had with the witches' circle, to find owls and in the end every child gets also really take home the blue owl dust. Of course, the landlord in the Schönbergalm adventure restaurant has also prepared for Bibi fans with the famous "ghost soup" from the film.

Die Mammuthöhle

The name Mammoth Cave was chosen by the explorers because of the enormous dimensions of the underground rooms and passages in this cave system. More than 60 kilometers of these corridors have currently been explored, almost one kilometer of which can be walked through on the guided tours. The difference in altitude between the highest point of entry and the lowest point established during the research is no less than 1199 meters. According to this research, the Dachstein Mammoth Cave takes 30th place among the longest caves on earth and 31st place among the deepest caves.

Adventure Mammut Cave Dachstein Cave World During the one-hour guided tour through the Mammut Cave, visitors get an insight into the history of caves and how the cave explorers work. You can find out how enormous amounts of water once rushed through the mountain, and what problems the cave explorers in the "Midnight Dome" were confronted with on their multi-day expeditions into the interior of the mountain. In the "Realm of Shadows" there are no limits to the imagination. Here nature herself drew pictures from white mountain milk and brown iron oxide, which were given names like "Cave Venus" and "Lady with a hoop skirt". And finally, installations from the Art University Linz - such as the project Lichteinfall and Höhlenscan - provide one or the other aha experience.

Großartig: Das Höhlenmuseum

The Dachstein Cave Museum, built in the style of a woodcutter's hut, stands out from the Upper Austrian museum landscape not only because of its special theme, but also because of its location. It is located 1350 m above sea level at the middle station of the Dachsteinbahn. The main focus is the exploration of the Dachstein caves. As a special attraction, the museum has a model of the 48 km of explored corridors in the Mammoth Cave. Other showcases show the different aspects of the caves: the rock shapes, the fauna in the cave and the exploration.
