Better place in which to live
Our popularity is a combination of 101 lakes, Pokagon State Park, Tri-State University, a nationally recognized K-12 school system, and a hard working, well-trained work force. We are a community looking to the future. We have started implementing a high-speed fiber optics system throughout our City, and we hope to have both of our industrial parks lit up by the end of 2004. Our nationally recognized Tri-State University and all that it offers, helps make a community our size somewhat unique. We are truly at the "Crossroads of America" with I-69 and the Indiana Toll Road intersecting in our county. We also have an airport just four miles from our city.
Camping
Pokagon offers 275 campsites. Rates are: electrical $11 per night; non-electrical $7 per night and primitive $5 per night. Youth tent camping is also available for 50 cents per person per night. Reservations must be received by mail at least two weeks in advance of arrival. Weekend reservations must include both Friday and Saturday evenings. Holidays have a three-day minimum reservation.
Horse Rides
Visitors may take a guided horse ride for $10 per 45-minute ride. Riders must be at least 8 years old and 50 inches tall. The saddle barn conducts weekend hay rides for 20 or more people at $2 per person. Pony rides for children over the age of 1 are $2. The stable accepts Visa and Mastercard. Beaches
Two sunny beaches on Lake James are available for sunning or swimming. The beach in front of Potawatomi Inn does not provide lifeguards, but they are on duty daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the main beach below the Upper CCC pavilion. The bathhouse and beach are open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
