In Marathon, the "Heart of the Florida Keys", our hidden island treasures are ready to come directly in your door. Fresh Spiny Florida Lobster, Golden Crab, Stone Crab Claws, and Shrimp are waiting to make their trip from paradise to your table.
From our boats to our tables or yours! This eatery overlooking the Gulf serves awesome food for a very good price. Everything served on the premises is available for take-out or shipment. Experience a true Florida Keys Adventure Aboard a working lobster boat, as you join the crew for a day aboard a commercial lobster or stone-crab boat with up to 6 family members or friends. You will spend 3 to 3˝ hours with a commercial fisherman while your boat pulls lobster or stone-crab traps and you remove the catch. Your captain will narrate your trip with local history, sites and legends as only a true fisherman can. You'll see the Real Florida Keys through the eyes of a living legend, a life-long commercial fisherman. When you return to our docks, we'll prepare your catch at our dockside restaurant (seafood just doesn't get any fresher), or we can pack and ship your catch from our dockside market. Each group will receive 8 pounds of either lobster or stone crab, depending on the season.
The boat marina is truly a piece of paradise, located out on the Gulf with unrestricted views and easy access to the Atlantic. Currently there is no live-aboard permit. Our Gift Gallery is continually expanding, and offers an excellent selection of nautical design arts and crafts as well as gifts of a nautical nature. Hurricane season starts at June 1st and ends November 30th each year. Living in the Florida Keys requires you to be prepared for a possible threat.
The most popular is the city birthday celebration in March sponsored by the Community Association, known as Marathon Day. It is a one day event that attracts many visitors and offers a variety of vendors, food, live music and more. Recently the city has allowed the use of City Hall & Gazebo Parks for BPW to held its annual fund raiser Taste of the Islands, a presentation of local cuisine, offering food samples from some of the best restaurants in the area. Other events: Zonta 5K Walk for Women's Health Awareness and Florida Keys Art Guild Art in the Park.
The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail was officially designated as part of the East Coast Greenway
The vision for the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail is to provide a safe and continuous multi-use path that can serve residents and visitors to the Keys by offering an alternative form of transportation, removing motorists and congestion from the highway, providing access to local businesses, promoting recreational opportunities, and enhancing tourism that feeds the local economy. The trail will also provide outstanding educational opportunities to learn about the unique history of the Florida Keys and the importance of sustainable development. The project will provide cultural, historical and ecological interpretation as users traverse the Flagler Railroad Bridges and the many conservation areas between Key Largo and Key West.
What is the current status of the project? The Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail is currently in the first phase of development. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has begun construction of nine miles of trail scheduled for completion in early 2002. Once these segments are finished, the trail will be officially designated as the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail. Additional segments will be designed and built over the course of the next five years. The trail promises to carry trail riders over some of the most unique vistas in the country.
Where is the project? The project stretches the length of the Florida Keys beginning at Mile Marker (MM) 106.3 in Key Largo and ending at MM 0 in Key West. The beginning of the trail in Key Largo is located approximately one hour from Miami International Airport.
