A town in Rockingham County
Hampton Beach has always had world-class attractions and events, as well as great free nightly outdoor entertainment and arguably the most spectacular fireworks schedule of any resort in the northeast. Now comes the Summer of 2001 and with it the first ever Masters Sand Sculpture Competition at Hampton Beach during Hampton "Happy Daze", June 18-23. That's when 10 master sand sculptors will compete for over $5,000.00 in cash prizes. No doubt, thousands of spectators will be lining the boardwalk again as they did last year when Master Sculptor Greg Grady of Hampton created a 10 ton replica of the newly minted New Hampshire quarter.
But imagine, if you will, 10 masters of the sand sculpture universe creating their very own giant masterpieces all at once right in the center of Hampton Beach! The entire event will require 200 tons of sand and, ironically, not a bit of it from the beach itself. In fact, Hampton Beach will import 200 tons of sand from a nearby sand pit - talk about bringing coals to Newcastle - to supply the master sculptors with their raw material - the only other material used is water.
According to an article published in the Albany, N.Y. Times Travel Section "We couldn't have found a more family friendly place than Hampton Beach" - in reference to the Hampton Beach Playground. Located in the heart of Hampton Beach, the newly refurbished playground with state of the art play stations open daily 9 AM to 8 PM. There are plenty of other activities for kids at Hampton Beach including a water slide which you can take them to, they'll take you to one of the many arcades. The highlight for kids in 2001 is the annual Children's Festival, August 13-17. Five fun filled days for children and their families including the famous Ronald McDonald Magic Show, puppets, clowns, storytellers, sand castle contests and a huge parade on Friday where every child gets a prize.
We even have a slogan contest for kids and last year, Katherine Burke, won a new mountain bike for her entry of "2001 ways to have fun at Hampton Beach". How about night life? Hampton Beach boasts some of the finest local entertainment performing on the fabled Hampton Seashell Stage seven nights a week and spectacular fireworks every Wednesday night and holidays right in the center of the beach.
Imagine some of the best show bands, country, rock 'n roll, blues even a polka band and other unique groups and you have a weeks worth of the "good old days". The concert series begins Memorial Day Weekend as do the spectacular fireworks display, set off by award-winning pyro technicians.
Many of Hampton Beach's fine hotels and restaurants feature lounges with dancing and music from around the world. And, of course, there is the fabled Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, a 2000 seat venue that has hosted some of the greatest names in show business from George Carlin to Hootie and the Blowfish.
And you are just a free trolley ride away to the Seabrook Greyhound Track featuring day and night live racing as well as thoroughbred simulcasts.
Hampton Beach is an active place for swimming, para-sailing, jet skiing, (there's a separate beach for surf boards), or strolling the historic boardwalk. Serious sunbathers will find Hampton Beach's miles of pristine white beach, groomed daily, unsurpassed. More active vacations include deep sea fishing or whale watching in style from the decks of one of the many charter boats from Hampton Harbor - there's also two public golf courses nearby, as well as tennis courts.
Other Hampton Beach events include: The Miss Hampton Beach Pageant, Sunday, July 29th and of course the premier event of the Season, as usual, will be the 12th Annual Seafood Festival, September 8th and 9th. Hampton Beach has accommodations to suit every taste and budget from hotels, motels and cottages to campgrounds. Walk or trolley to one of our many remarkable restaurants and enjoy tax-free shopping at the gift shops or the nearby factory outlet mall.
You may visit to take advantage of the exciting free nights entertainment, spectacular fireworks or other events, but you will stay for the beauty and sheer pleasure of Hampton Beach.
