A census-designated place In the beautiful town of Dennis in Barnstable County

Dennis offers a diversity of lodging, dining facilities, shopping and activities to satisfy the desires of every vacationer. And while both the North and South sides feature activities which are similar, one should not visit Dennis without experiencing the uniquely different personalities which await the adventurous tourist.

Dip your toes in the warm, soothing waters of Nantucket Sound or venture across town to Cape Cod Bay, where the refreshingly cool waters will tingle your skin on even a hot August day. Tee up your ball on one of the mid-Cape's many courses or try your hand catching striped bass or bluefish from one of our sportfishing charters. Experience the thrill of a whale watch, or just take it easy while rambling down Rte. 6A, stopping at the many antique and craft stores which dot the landscape.

From fried clams to pizza to a sumptuous lobster dinner, Dennis offers a menu for every palate. And for a different type of excitement, Dennis is only a short drive to the world famous Oceanographic Institute in Woods Hole; or head in the other direction to Provincetown, which offers a flamboyance unlike any other town on Cape Cod. To really get away from it all, take a full day excursion to the quaint and charming islands of Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard.

All in all, the variety in Dennis, with its easy accessibility to all of Cape Cod, is what lures vacationers back year after year.

Dennis features some of the most beautiful beaches on Cape Cod, including sixteen on the ocean and two on fresh water lakes. Whether you're seeking a small secluded area for a romantic picnic or a full-service facility to accommodate the kids, the beaches of Dennis will have you returning again and again. Daily parking passes may be purchased at any location and are good for the entire day at all beaches throughout the town. Weekly and seasonal passes for residents and non-residents are available seven days a week at Town Hall (in season).

Fresh and salt water fishing are popular sports in Dennis. Scargo Lake is a favorite local spot for Small Mouth Bass and Trout. Fishermen are also commonly seen reeling in Bluefish off the beaches; or for the casual fisherman, just drop a line off the Bass River or Upper County Road Bridges. For the more adventurous, there are several sportfishing charters leaving from Sesuit Harbor in East Dennis. Cape Cod Bay offers some of the best Flounder fishing on the east coast year round. In the Spring, the waters teem with Tautog (Blackfish), Mackerel and Pollock. The daily catch also frequently includes Cod, Scup and Sea Bass.

Dennis' hiking trails, all open to the public, include Crowes Pasture off South Street at the end of Quivet Cemetery in East Dennis and the 87 acre Fresh Pond Conservation Area off Route 134.

Getting to Dennis is easy! The main highway routes are Route 3 South, or from Route 495 or 195 to Route 25 South, to Route 6 East (the Mid-Cape Highway) to Route 134. Taking Route 134 North will lead you to Dennis and East Dennis. Going South on Route 134 takes you to West Dennis, South Dennis and Dennisport. Various airlines serve Barnstable County Airport in Hyannis. Bus service is also available on the Cape, as well as to and from all major cities off Cape.

Route 6A

This scenic stretch of historic highway, once an Indian Trail, is brimming with art galleries, dining establishments, distinctive accommodations and, of course, antiques, boutiques and gift shops to captivate even the most discriminating shopper. Today, Rte. 6A offers access to some of the Cape's finest fishing whether you're seeking tuna, bluefish or some of the many smaller species indigenous to the area. And for the non-participant looking for a different experience, travel to Barnstable Harbor or Provincetown for the excitement of a Whalewatch cruise. An enchanting stretch of highway no matter what the season, once you've traveled its winding path, Olde King's Highway is sure to leave you with pleasant memories of the charm and distinction of days long since past.

Discover the Southside... Route 28

Wind your way along Rte. 28 from the Bass River Bridge to the Village of Dennisport, and you'll find family-style vacation to be the order of the day. Accommodations run the gamut from luxurious resorts to cozy cottages, while the bill of fare can range from ice cream and pizza to the traditional Cape Cod seafood dinner. For most vacationers, time loses its importance, and it's not uncommon for the whole family to be munching on a pint of fried clams in mid-afternoon, when we might otherwise resist the temptation. If nightlife is high on your list of vacation must-do's, there are clubs and restaurants which feature everything from the latest in recorded dance music to live bands and nationally-known comedians. And if you're in the mood for shopping you'll be dazzled by the array of gift and antique shops and clothing stores which dot the landscape. For the more active vacationer, renting a canoe to explore Swan and Bass Rivers, or a bicycle to discover one of our many historic bike trails will serve to ready both body and mind for a full night's rest.
