The world record Blue Shark, weighing 450 lbs. was caught just South of Martha's Vineyard. The Marina record Bluefin Tuna, weighing 1000 lbs. was caught in the summer of '96 from yacht "Cool Change" from "F Dock." Shown in the photo below are owners Chris and Larry Kenny with the prize catch.

On Shore

It is a short walk, or one can enjoy a trolley ride to main Street for more dining opportunities and countless boutiques. Provisions are available at the local convenience, natural food, liquor, and hardware stores that are close by.

Main Street is home to the JFK Museum, which is housed in the Historic Old Town Hall and exhibits wonderful photos of JFK, Jackie, and family enjoying the family compound in Hyannisport. The current and stately nineteenth century Town hall, which was once the local teaching college, and the local Library also grace the street. Puritan Clothing, clothiers since 1919 on Cape Cod, has a large store complete with traditional and sports wear, and footwear for men and women. Andy Carroll's boutique carries more exotic clothing. Fiesta imports clothes and goods from South America. Nantucket Trading, Spectrum, and Red Fish Blue Fish offer a wide variety of lovely gifts and art produced by local artisans. Just around the corner from Spectrum is a nautical bookstore, which carries maritime books, magazines, artifacts and models.

No main street would be complete without a Ben and Jerry's, an espresso shop (Cafe Dolci), a French cafe, and a news store. Way's News is a wonderful place, full of every newspaper, magazine, paperback, and card imaginable.

At the West end of Main Street is an excellent natural food store (Sandy's, 508-790-1580) that also carries some organic and homegrown produce. It is next to Nada's Noodles, which sells homemade pasta, prepared suaces, and the famous bread of Pan D'Avignon, which is sold to the best dining establishments in Boston. An antique and vintage clothing store is the same complex. The Army/Navy store provides supplies and clothing. Spinnakers offers a good selection of CD's, and boutiques abound for those who like to shop. Little Tease and the Rugged Bear sell great kids clothes, and Twelve West sells comtemporary women's clothing. Used Bookstores abound. Main Street even offers a children's carousel a mini-golf course, and bowling!

Area cultrual events include the Cape Cod Melody Tent, with talent such as Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Frankie Valley, Patty Labelle and the Commitments. Jazz by the Sea, and the Boston Pops perform the first weekend in August. The harbor festival takes place in June with the annual blessing of the fleet. The Cape Cod Scenic Railroad runs a dinner train to the Cape Cod Canal.

The night life scene takes place around the harbor at Tugboats, Steamers, and Baxter's on Main Street at Goodfellaw's and the Road House, and further inland at the Boathouse and Starbucks.

When one has had enought of the night life, shopping, and eating, one can go to the area's beautiful and abundant harbor. Veterans Park and Kalmus Park can be reached by the trolley that stops at the marina.

There are opportunities for gunkholing in Lewis Bay's many tributaries, Great Island and Pine Island on the West side of the bay create a pristine shelter for anchorage and a prime spot for observing wildlife. The Kennedy complex can be seen by boat, or jump on board a Hy-Line ferry for a narrated tour of the area. Nantucket is 23 miles from Hyannis and Edgartown is 18 miles, which makes for a delightful, triangular, cruising course.
